Each month I will be adding new links to this page, whenever I consider the given website worthy of inclusion. In my experience there is profound truth on both sides of the “New Age Divide” (as I like to call it). The so-called “orthodox”, mainstream medical and academic approach to psychology and psychiatry has many merits and at no point do I invalidate its strengths. Unlike most “orthodox” mental care professionals, I embrace the best and most common-sense so-called “alternative” approaches, which the orthodox people often frown on and downright dismiss. I consider this type of attitude unprofessional, pompous and self-righteous, because it presumes that their state of knowledge is beyond improvement and by thus dismissing misunderstood techniques or traditional (Eastern or Western) approaches, these “conservative” professionals do a huge disservice to their patients – and to their profession.
The links I’m providing below are not JUST from the world of psychology or psychiatry. Some of them are of a more general medical or health nature. Some a widely supported by the mainstream academia, others are marginalized. I include them all here because I believe that they are all valid and deserve unbiased study.
This said, I do not personally endorse any of the methods or treatments provided by any of these sites and I provide them here for your information only, albeit with a strongly sympathetic attitude.
Selected “Orthodox” Links
- American Psychological Association
As I psychologist, I believe that many of the conditions treated by modern psychiatry with the help of chemicals (meds!) is more often than not UNWARRANTED. Naturally, this statement can only be qualified on a case by case basis, but in my experience and observation, the main reason for psychiatry trumping psychology in daily applications is simply due to the illusion of a “quick fix.” Because the fix is rarely “quick” not is it really a “fix”, I will stick to my general position on this one! - American Psychiatric Association
Notwithstanding my comments above, there IS room for psychiatry in this world. But if I had it my way, no patient would ever go directly to a psychiatrist without prior referral by a psychologist!
Selected “Un-Orthodox” Links
- World Without Cancer
This is a link which I feel NEEDS to be shared with everyone. While the so-called “alternative” cancer therapies are not only marginalized but often actively fought by the medical establishment, I believe that in some cases they are not just wrong – they are DEAD wrong. Please study this site carefully and follow up with the numerous videos and articles across the web, including literally thousands of testimonials from people who have nothing to gain by promoting this incredible method. - The Gerson Therapy
And while we’re on the subject of incredible methods, the famous (or in some circles infamous) “Gerson therapy” merits careful study. It claims to cure cancer and other diseases, and when you devote enough time to studying this topic, you will have to agree that it’s not without profound justification. - Dr Bob Beck’s Bio-electric Protocol
This method too has its very loud and aggressive critics. But, very much like the other two methods I’m referring to above, it’s also entirely natural and its immediate effects are simply awe-inspiring. Dr Beck employed simple electrical devices which he constructed (and the schematic diagrams of which he makes available to the public for free), which anyone can build for no more than a few dollars with parts from a local Radio Shack. The simple equipment includes a colloidal silver maker. The therapy advocated by Dr Beck has ardent adherents around the world and also opponents. But, again, the thousands of testimonials available online provide powerful endorsement of this incredible method.
